As humans we are influenced by everything around us. In society today the newest hit shows and celebrities have a big impact on what people want. Many desire what they see on TV or what these famous stars have. One thing these celebrities and TV shows influence is fashion and therefore many people strive to get what the celebrities are wearing, but this negatively affects people because it makes them loose their individuality.
In every magazine you see headlines that say things like “Get So and So’s Look” or “Do You Want to look like so and so?” Constantly we are reminded of what every celebrity is wearing and how we should get what they are wearing because it is “cool”, “fashionable” and “stylish”. TV promotes fashion less directly than magazines, but still very affectively. Many shows have rich people with fashionable items and clothing. Even if they are not rich they still manage to have the most recent fashion statements. For example the show Gossip Girl which is the shows of all shows for fashion. In each scene the main characters have new stylish clothing that would make any “shopaholic” envious. Society therefore directly impacts peoples fashion trends, and how they want to look.
With all these magazines and shows telling people how to dress it is hard to find yourself and be a unique individual. Society is corrupting young minds to think that there is only one way you should dress and it that it should be like everybody else. Shows corrupt people into thinking that you should wear what everyone else is wearing or else you will be an outcast; again, Gossip Girl illustrates this idea perfectly. In the show there is a girl who does not have as much money as the other Upper East Siders, and therefore does not wear as fashionable clothes as the others. In the end she became an outsider and was unhappy. This message isn’t a good one to teach teens especially in this time in their life when being an outcast is the worst possible thing that can truly happen to them. Since this is what society is promoting, it is no wonder that teens strive to be alike.
How many times have you seen a magazine promote uniqueness or individualism? Probably never. Magazines should focus less on how celebrities dress and more on helping young people gain self-confidence and find out who they really are as a person. When all magazines provide is how to look and dress like other people it gets old and unoriginal. It is okay for magazines to show the best trends but they should say things like “make it your own” not “wear it like this celebrity”. Television shows should also focus on this message instead of shallow outlooks on life that shows focus on now. In the end if society changed its outlook on fashion and did not tell teens that they have to be alike, then teens would be all around more unique, happy individuals.

Semi Stress? Tips to Finding the Perfect Dress
As the days get closer and closer to April 3rd, many girls are stressing over dates, pictures, rides, but most importantly what to wear. Semi is a stressful time as many start to try and figure out the perfect dresses to wear. In the end semi is really hard to shop for because you have your dress has to fulfill three things: it has to be comfortable, fun and unique, and reasonably priced.
One of the most important things to get from your dress is comfort. The most important thing is to feel confident in what you’re wearing, and therefore feel secure in your own dress. Also it should be literally comfortable to be worn, because you do not want to spend approximately four hours dancing in a dress that feels like sand paper. Make sure to check how it feels and fits when you try it on because it could ruin your night. I know this personally because last year I bought this beautiful dress that I loved. It had sequins on it and that was another reason why I really liked it, but I didn’t really move around in it when I tried it on. So when I got to semi and started dancing the sequins rubbed against my skin and scratched me, and my night was not as fun as it could have been. So make sure, when searching for the perfect dress, that you feel both confident and comfy.
Another important characteristic that a dress must have is that it must be fun, unique and stylish. Remember that this is a semi formal, not a formal. You should look for a dress that is fun and exciting not boring and really formal. Don’t be afraid to stick out from the crowd with something that is very bold and exciting. Also you could go to different places that are not so popular so you won’t end up getting the same dress as someone else, which would be one of the worst things that could happen. Remember keep your own style, and find something that fits your personality, and therefore it will be unique.

Triple Threat?
Nowadays many movies stars are trying to become singers, while many well known artists are branching into the acting world. But recently the newest trend is celebrities trying to manage their own fashion line. This “triple threat” combination is ruling Hollywood right now, but unfortunately the fashion lines aren’t truly a threat.
When actors try and become singers it is hilarious, because most of the time they have no singing ability. Also when singers try and become actors, usually they are not good at it. Taking this into consideration, when celebrities try to enter the fashion world they often don’t achieve much. It is not often that you see students walking through the halls wearing Gwen Stefani’s “L.A.M.B.” fashion line or the boys wearing P.Diddy’s “Sean John” apparel. One of the few reasons why these clothing lines have managed to survive is because, unlike the average American, these celebrities have the money to keep a clothing line in business. While most would have to close down a store that is making little profit in this economy, the celebrities have the money to keep a line going. This would then avoid the humiliation of closing an unsuccessful store down, or losing some of their “celebrity status.”
The numerous amount of celebrities creating clothing is outrageous. It’s rather humorous that once a celebrity is out of the spotlight for a second, they easily jump right back with the newest trend, clothing lines. The odds are definitely against any celebrity creating their own apparel. They obviously created their line thinking there was a chance that it would thrive, but contrary to their own belief, there is a very good chance it will not.
So why do celebrities create their own fashion lines? Is it to gain money or to gain more publicity? Celebrities already have enough money and don’t need more to buy mansions all around the world that they won’t even end up using. Celebrities should use the fame they have to do good, not to gain more money or to be more popular. If these fashion lines went to charity, I bet that more people would want to go and buy their clothes. The fact is that their clothes are bad and people will not want to buy these clothes that lack style to give celebrities more money or more fame.
I’m sure most people don’t even know about half of the lines celebrities have recently created. How about Lindsey Lohan’s legging line named “6126”? Basing a line on leggings, is not a very intelligent thing to do, but then again has Lindsey Lohan made many intelligent decisions in her lifetime? Leggings were in high demand about a year ago but they are not anymore. The legging craze is far in the past and it is very unlikely that Lohan’s line will succeed in the fashion world of today. Also these leggings sell from $40-$140, which is pretty expensive for leggings. Also another unsuccessful line was Jessica Simpson’s fashion line named “JS”. This line came after her disappointment of a fragrance line called “Dessert”, but to no one’s surprise “JS” could not survive either. The best was Heidi Montag’s “Heidiwood” line. This “star” started out on the reality show The Hills, then branched out into music(where she failed miserably). Apparently she moved on to fashion and made cheap clothing that many people didn’t like. These are only a few examples of the many celebrities that have recently decided that they were fashion designers.
Celebrities should just stick to what they know best and what they are good at. Fashion lines might seem like a good idea at first, but in the end, fashion lines really will not end up being a good investment.

The Natick Mall
What are most people looking to buy when they go to the mall? Some might say toys, some might want appliances, some might want something entirely different, but what most people are looking for when they go to the mall are clothes. Malls should indeed offer everything for every different type of person, but the main focus of a mall should be the clothes stores. One time I was at The Natick Mall and I was looking for clothes stores to shop in, like every other time I go to the mall, when I came to a realization that there are only a few stores in the mall that I really enjoy shopping in. The Natick Mall has very good variety of different kinds of stores, but when it comes to the selection of all around excellent clothes stores, it’s not too great.
The Natick Mall does have some good clothes stores. Some of my favorites include Forever 21 and Express. Forever 21 is a great store to shop at. It has an awesome selection of clothes, and it’s rare that you ever get the same item of clothing as one of your friends. The clothes at Forever 21 are always stylish and constantly on top of the new fashion trends. Not only that, but the clothes found here are not like any other store in the mall, they are all very unique. Also everything in the store you can buy for an incredibly cheap price, and in that case keep some money in your pocket. Express is an extremely fun store to be in, from the customer service, to the appearance and organization of the clothing, everything is just right. The clothes here give your style a polished and finished appearance, and in the end make your wardrobe look just right. These are the only two stores in the whole mall that quality clothes stores.
Even though there are some decent clothes stores found in The Natick Mall, when it comes down to it, there aren’t any stores that really stand out. Even though the clothes might be fashionable and trendy, there is always something that completely covers up the positive. It might be the prices, it could be the cheapness of the material the clothes are made out of, it could even be the customer service, or the appearance of the store itself. I know nothing is perfect, but is it so hard to ask for a store that has everything right? A store that has stylish clothes made out of good materials, that are not too much money, and the store itself is organized, and the people that work there help the customers. Personally, I don’t think that is too hard to ask for at all.
The Natick Mall made a good decision in the addition of Forever 21 last summer. Not only did the mall profit from this new store by getting more money and more customers, but also the shoppers benefited too from having a good clothes store. The mall should add better clothes stores like they added Forever 21. One clothes store that the mall should definitely add to their collection is H&M. This store has many different styles of clothing for different kinds of people. Also the prices of the items are affordable for everyone. The inexpensive prices of the clothes don’t mean that the material is cheap, actually it’s the opposite; all the clothes I have bought from there have never ripped. Another store that they should add is Charlotte Russe, because it really is great, fun store. It always has the most popular clothes for the best prices, and the customer service is great. If the mall added these clothing stores then mall would make a lot more money and attract many more customers because of the fact that everyone is looking for an all around great clothing stores, and these two stores definitely are.

March 4th, A Date to Mark in your Calendar?
There is a little more than three weeks until the premiere of the new season of America's Next Top Model, but the question is, will the season be fresh and exciting or one cycle too many? As many might know this new season will be cycle 12. We will see if Tyra and the other judges can pull together some new ideas and make the everlasting battle of the models a season to look forward to. March 4th marks the new cycle, which some are anxiously awaiting for, but others stay skeptical.
Last season was full of tackiness and repetition. Even though it was clear Tyra's efforts and attempts were to make the season like nothing else before, she clearly fell in an act that was, at times, comical.
From the second episode the models arrived to find Mr. and Mrs. Jay wearing futuristic outfits, and that is where the weirdness began. They both explained to the models that this cycle's theme was going into the future. As the models entered a building, they went through many futuristic, but clearly fake machines. The machines were said to make them better models. Then they arrived at another machine that was malfunctioning and this was where Tyra made her big entrance. Tyra appeared from out of the machine acting like a robot. The models didn't seem to mind, they were, as always, star struck by the sight of Tyra, that they didn't even care, even if she was acting like a robot. The special effects also added to the tackiness of this season. Once "robot" Tyra was finished talking to the girls she "disappeared" out of thin air! The models all looked really surprised (they might be good models, but they weren't too great at acting). The season lacked freshness and was weird at times to say the least.
In the early cycles of America's Next Top Model, each and every episode was marked with a kind of new experience or challenge. The competition seemed genuine and the judges promised a mix of humor and advice for the models. The freshness of the competition seemed to die away after the seventh cycle and even though fans might stay faithful to the series, it never could live up to its early days.
The last season never provided the audience with anything it had in the beginning. The photo shoots became boring because they couldn’t come up with new ideas. The judges, with new judge, Paulina Porizkova, seemed to try and add humor to the show, when it wasn't funny. They just tried too hard to make the challenges fun and exciting when, in the end, they were really repetitive of what had happened previously in earlier seasons. So I don't totally bash on Tyra, last season did, however, have some things that were amusing. The first photo shoot was based on voting, which encouraged young voters to vote. On the upside of this competition, Tyra always seems to make at least one photo shoot based on some sort of cause.
So should you tune in for this premiere or not? This season could be promising, but most likely it is just going to be a repeat of last season. Once again there will be efforts to make the competition more interesting, but they will fail to do so. Consequently, the audiences will not want to tune in for more. There might be a few surprises this season, and new challenges, or new photo shoots, but overall this season won’t live up to the previous expectations, or the earlier seasons of ANTM. If you lack some humor in your life you might want to tune in purely for some comedic relief, at what the models have to go through or anything Tyra will say this season. Cycle 12 is most likely going to fail, and it wouldn’t be surprising if this was the last season ever to air.

9 Fashion Items for '09
As we start the new year off, many resolutions are made. Not only can you change your lifestyle you could also change your fashion style. Changing your wardrobe can help you jump start the year off right. To dress up, pair with pearls,a fancy shirt and heals. Pairing with a t-shirt is a fool-proof way, on the other hand, to dress down a blazer and too look flawless in the process. There are also different styles of blazers which will help you to really find the one you like and feel comfortable in, and of course reflect your own personal style.

Pea Coats- Everywhere I turn I see a new variety of the average pea coat. But this season, pea coats have taken a new turn for the better. Now having different extravagant buttons, embroidering, and new patterns and colors, they have evolved greatly from what they formerly were. These coats are not only for style but the ones I have seen and have tried on are really comfy. My pick for a good place to find a nice pea coat would be Forever 21.

- These boots, like the boots on the left are very in this season because of three reasons. One, they affordable, two, they are stylish and three, they go with just about any outfit. These boots have replaced Uggs, because they are new, hip, and more mature than the former fashion craze.

Fashion is a way of expression...
Every day all of us wake up and make a very important choice, what to wear that day. To some this might not seem a very important thing in life because the way you look is not everything, but fashion is a way to express yourself for who you really are. Like the way an artist might express himself or herself through artwork, people choose to express themselves through clothing. Not only is fashion a form of artistic expression but its also fun!
Some people might think that fashion is just going with the trends, but it is much more than that. Different people dress in their own ways to show that they are unique and different than every one else. Fashion shows individuality and being able to go away from the crowd. Even though there are trends in the fashion world it is exciting and adventurous to get these key items and change them according to your style, and maybe, if you’re very daring, start some new fashion trends of your own and make a statement. I dress according to the way I feel on a particular day. If I'm happy, I go with bright colors and pastels;on my bad days, I tend to lean towards dark colors and earth tones. I like to buy trendy, must-have items, but then accessorize and make my own.
Fashion can be fun; you can enjoy putting different pieces of clothing together and mixing and matching. Before you get dressed you are like a blank canvas, you can choose how to paint the canvas according to what you put on. The paints and colors you choose are what make the picture unique to you and only you. It’s entertaining to try to find distinctive combinations of clothes and in the end you might get great pleasure out of it, because of the fact that you have created a work of art.
The right clothes on the right person can provide them with self-confidence and make them feel good. This is because they will feel happy and good in their own skin, or technically in this case, there own clothes. If I don't feel too good about myself one day, a good outfit can change my attitude completely and make me feel better about myself as a person.
